Don't get me wrong, the artstyle and the subtle story are great, the music is straight up gorgeous to listen to. No, I wouldn't recommend this game to most people. This is actually my second time trying this game had it on switch a few years back. You need to earn my investment in your story, not force it. I find the way some games present you with 10 minutes of lore before you even get to play really frustrating. Pixel art is really pretty though, and the animation at the beginning was stellar, though it did drag on a bit.

Didn't help that Hyper light drifter's idea of difficulty is throwing you in a cramped space with a million things going on.Īlso, I get the whole artistic view and stuff, but its so overwhelming having to navigate shop menus and things with no dialogue explaining what stuff is. I found the way that the camera doesn't really track the player very disorienting as well. If you want people to play your game, you have to make it accessible. Worse still, the heartbeat rhythm that it vibrates in really sets off my anxiety. Personally, I really don't like the way the controller vibrates when on one hit point. This is when I realised this game has little to no actual settings.

I tried playing with keyboard at first, but i prefer controller for these types of games, so I switched to a ps4 controller. But in Dark Souls i still feel in control. I get what they're going for, something soulsy, sure. The controls feel really clunky, it feels similar to input lag - though there is none. Maybe it gets better- but first impressions are what counts, and my impression is that I'm getting a refund.
